Shirai Seiichi (1905-1983) was an architect with an unconventional background. He was born in Kyoto, Japan, and initially studied design at Kyoto Craft High School. Later, he went to Germany to study philosophy. Throughout his career, he was known for critiquing Japanese architecture and engaging in a famous debate on tradition in the 1950s. He was also a book designer and a skilled calligrapher. This book explores his entire career, from his beginnings to his later years, covering his contributions to architecture, book design, calligraphy, and his unique artistic style.
